Flag Sojourn 250 at the USS Arizona Memorial on October 17, 2025.
Our Post Comrade Yvonne Geesey was invited to participate in this most special event.
October 22, 2025
Yvonne was invited by Honolulu Lodge 616 Historian Anita Manning to participate in Flag Sojourn 250 at the USS Arizona Memorial on October 17, 2025.
America Waves is a tribute campaign to the American Flag as a part of the America250 Semiquincentennial whereby a single American flag is to be flown over every US State, Territory and US Cemetery overseas.
The Sojourn Flag came to Hawai`i from the US Embassy in France having flown over battlefield cemeteries in Europe. Dr. Arthur Tulak and NPS Superintendent Tom Leatherman organized a detail that hoisted the Sojourn Flag over the Utah and Oklahoma Memorials, then aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial.
A group of about 50 participants met at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center Bell Court and boarded a boat to the USS Arizona Memorial where the flag was raised above the Memorial and saluted.
The Sojourn Flag will depart Hawai`i to American Samoa and by July 4th, 2026 will have flown over every US State and Territory ending with the thirteen original colonies.
Mahalo to Dr. Tulak, Commissioner of Hawaii America250 and NPS Superintendent Tom Leatherman, Anita Manning and all the Members of the Hawai`i Commission on the US Semiquincentennial.
